Surviving Grateful Dead members to headline Jerry Garcia tribute show in May

The surviving members of The Grateful Dead are gathering for another concert, this time for honouring their fallen leader Jerry Garcia.

Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will headline an all-star cast for Dear Jerry: Celebrating the Music of Jerry Garcia, which will be held on May 14 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.

Garcia founded the Dead 50 years ago and led the band until his death in 1995. He will also be honoured with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June, along with longtime writing partner Robert Hunter.

Lesh will perform with his band Communion as well, while Kreutzmann will also lead Billy and the Kids. Don Was will front a backing group and serve as the event's music director. "Jerry made us fall in love with the possibilities of music", Was said in a press release. "Getting to play his songs with these artists is a dream realized for all of us."
